Wars kill and destroy lives of women, girls, menand boys. There are particular gendered dimensionsto violence that have a disproportionateand different impact on women and men. Gender-basedviolence (GBV)1, such as sexual violenceand domestic violence tend to increaseduring and after war. At the same time, postconflictpeace- and state building can be an opportunityto change discriminatory gender rolesand advance women’s rights and gender equality.This brief gives an overview of the women,peace and security agenda, how it is positionedwithin the Swedish development cooperation,and where the entry points are for Sida.
