With 2.1 billion people without access to safedrinking water at home, 4.5 billion still lacksafely managed sanitation and almost 1000children dying daily due to water and sanitationrelated diseases, we cannot afford vitalresources to be misused, lost or squanderedby corruption. Corruption represents a majorobstacle to sustainable development, not leastin the water and sanitation sector. In orderto contribute to the fight against corruption,Sida supports interventions that strengthentransparency, accountability, participation,and sustainable institutions in the water andsanitation sector.
