Sammanfattning
For about ten years, from 1986-87 to 1994-95, the SwedishAgency for Research Cooperation with DevelopingCountries (SAREC), today the Department for ResearchCooperation within Sida, gave financial support to researchcooperation between Sweden and Uruguay. Initiatedby the Swedish government after the restorationof democracy in Uruguay in 1985, the programme wasan expression of solidarity with the new regime. Itconsisted of a series of research projects linking Uruguayanresearch institutions to counterparts in Sweden. In some of the projects, Argentinean research institutionswere also involved. The idea behind the programmewas that through project cooperation, Swedishinstitutions would be able to assist partner institutionsin Uruguay in rebuilding a research capacity thathad been seriously damaged during the years of militarydictatorship.
