Strengthening of Democracy on the Atlantic Coast in Nicaragua - Programa RAAN-Asdi-RAAS 1994-2000

In 1994, Sweden signed a bilateral agreement with Nicaragua to implement a democracy program in the autonomous regions RAAN and RAAS, with the Regional Councils as main partners in the program. The main components of this program were training, advisory and infrastructure. In 1996 the program was widened to include both municipal and community levels.
