Gender Mainstreaming

Gender mainstreaming is theprocess of assessing the implicationsfor women and menof any planned action, policy orprogramme, in all areas and atall levels before any decisionsare made and throughout thewhole process. It is a strategy formaking women’s as well as men’sconcerns and experiences anintegral dimension of the design,implementation, monitoringand evaluation of policies andprogrammes so that both womenand men benefi t and inequality isnot perpetuated. Gender mainstreamingis not a goal in itself butan approach for promoting genderequality.
