Corruption and gender inequality are in manyways closely connected. Men and women areaffected by corruption in different ways, and aresubjects and objects of different corrupt practicesand behaviours. Gender inequality breedscorruption and vice versa: corruption tends toexacerbate gender inequalities. A gender perspectiveis necessary if we are to find effectivestrategies to combat corruption and achievesustainable development. This brief provides anintroduction to linkages between gender andcorruption relevant in Sida’s work, and givessuggestions on how to address corruption ingender policies and gender in anti-corruptionstrategies.
