Sammanfattning
The purpose of this brief is to give guidance on what aspects of digitalisation that are important to consider when analysing multidimensional poverty. The increased use of digital technologies by people and organisations, their subsequent impact and profound transformation of society at local and global levels, is referred to as digitalisation. It is sometimes referred to as the fourth industrial revolution. The use of digital technologies have increased dramatically since 2000. Digitalisation introduces both new opportunities and challenges for reducing multidimensional poverty. It is estimated that 87% of the SDG subgoals require digitalisation to be fully achieved. In Sub-Saharan Africa, the mobile economy alone contributed with 8 percent to GDP in 2022. Whereas digitalisation is the transformative opportunity of our time, the digital divide remains and holds back significant development opportunities. Sida works to improve the living conditions for people living in poverty and under oppression. This work benefits from understanding how digital transformation affects and will affect development and poverty reduction efforts in each strategy context.
