Selection of key operational partners completed

In 2025, Sida carried out a comprehensive process to select key operational partners for the period 2026–2029. The process was completed in July 2026, resulting in multi-year humanitarian partnerships with nine international organisations from the UN system, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and civil society.

The current strategy for Sida’s humanitarian aid remains in force until 2029.

Sida collaborates with humanitarian organisations across several different partnership categories, including operational partnerships, system-supporting partnerships and partnerships for learning and innovation. In addition to international organisations, Sida also works directly with local humanitarian actors from civil society in several countries.

Annual allocation distributes funds between crises and partners

Each year, Sida allocates funds between humanitarian crises around the world and determines how the funds are to be distributed amongst the humanitarian partner organisations.

The process is guided by humanitarian principles, in particular the principle of impartiality: funding is allocated based on the scale and severity of people’s needs, without discrimination on the grounds of location, gender, ethnicity, religion or political opinion.

Every year, Sida produces humanitarian crisis analyses for the crises currently unfolding around the world. In addition to analysing the humanitarian situation in the country or region, Sida identifies which humanitarian partners are best placed to support those most severely affected by the crisis.

In its annual crisis analysis, Sida sets out the rationale for how funds are to be allocated among humanitarian partner organisations in the coming year.
