Sida's work in Honduras
Sida's humanitarian work in Honduras focuses on meeting people's urgent needs for food, clean water, shelter and healthcare. People are severely affected by food shortages, violence from criminal groups, chronic poverty and climate disasters. Many refugees and migrants pass through the country, many of whom need humanitarian support.
Sida's work in Honduras
Honduras is affected by climate and natural disasters and recurrent droughts every year. The situation is exacerbated by the El Niño and La Niña weather phenomena. People also face food insecurity, chronic poverty and social unrest. On top of this, many are killed due to violence by criminal groups and the military response, which has led to people being forced to flee within the country.
Providing people with food, clean water, shelter and health care is central to Sida’s humanitarian work in Honduras.
Sida works in partnership with international humanitarian organisations and prioritises those most in need of support, such as refugees, children and young people, women, LGBTI people, indigenous peoples and people with disabilities.
Sida’s humanitarian support saves lives and alleviates suffering.

Honduras does not have a Swedish country strategy for development cooperation as it is not one of the countries prioritised for development cooperation by the Swedish government. However, Sida implements a small amount of development cooperation through regional or global strategies.
