Sida's work in El Salvador
Successive natural disasters, widespread migration, high levels of poverty and global inflation have caused high needs of humanitarian support. Providing people with food, water and sanitation, shelter and health care is at the centre of Sida's humanitarian work in El Salvador.
Sida's work in El Salvador
In recent years, the country has experienced several extreme weather events, including hurricanes and tropical storms, extensive flooding and landslides. El Salvador is a migration hub, with people moving from, within and through the country to seek refuge from life-threatening situations.
Providing people with food, water and sanitation, shelter and health care is central to Sida’s humanitarian work in El Salvador.
Sida works in partnership with international humanitarian organisations and prioritises those most in need of support, such as refugees, children and young people, women, LGBTQ people, indigenous peoples and people with disabilities.
Sida’s humanitarian support saves lives and alleviates suffering.

El Salvador does not have a Swedish country strategy for development cooperation as it is not one of the countries prioritised for development cooperation by the Swedish government. However, Sida implements a small amount of development cooperation through regional or global strategies.
