Ongoing conflicts in several parts of the country, persistent droughts, localised flooding, outbreaks of infectious diseases combined with high inflation have led to an estimated 28.6 million people in need of humanitarian assistance in 2023.\u003Csup>1\u003C\u002Fsup> Food shortages and malnutrition are increasing on a large scale. 11 million people are at risk of not having enough food to eat.\u003Csup>2\u003C\u002Fsup>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Strife and natural disasters have displaced millions of Ethiopians within the country. In addition, Ethiopia is one of the countries in Africa that receives the most refugees, mainly from Eritrea, Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan.\u003Csup>3\u003C\u002Fsup>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>In November 2020, fighting broke out between the Ethiopian military and the regional administration in the Tigray region in northern Ethiopia. Following the signing of a permanent ceasefire agreement in November 2022, the situation has improved significantly, but aid has still not reached the extent needed.
