Summary
The ground-breaking Paris Agreement on climatechange was adopted 2015, and it entered into forcewithin a year. By November 2017, 170 countries,including a majority of Sida’s cooperation countries,had ratified it. The Agreement aims to keep thetemperature increase below 2°C, to pursue effortsto limit it to 1.5°C, and to enhance the capacity toadapt to climate change. The main tool to achieve thegoals is the system with countries’ own NationallyDetermined Contributions (NDCs). Sida supportsimplementation of a large number of actions indifferent countries that are contributing to NDCs andthe implementation of the Paris Agreement. However,there is a great need and potential to support thisdevelopment further.
