Cooperation between the Swedish County Administration Boards and the Baltic Countries
Lennart C G Almqvist , Department for Central , Eastern Europe
The Swedish Parliament and Government have on several occasions emphasised the importance of a democratic, social, economic and an environmentally sound development in the Central and Eastern Europe, and especially in the Baltic Sea region. Consequently, in December 1992, the Swedish Government decided to support project co-operation between the Swedish County Administration Boards (CBAs) and the Baltic Countries of Estonia and Latvia, as a pilot project. The aim was to transfer knowledge within the responsibilities of the CBAs to the countries. Emphasis was put on the support for democratisation, equality and environment. Later Lithuania was included as the third country for such co-operation.
