Looking for the “E” – Evaluation Capacity Development in the Era of Agenda 2030

Uppdaterad: 17 september 2018

SEW Seminar

Date: Tuesday, 25 September 2018
Time: 14:00-16:45 (Registration from 13.00)
Venue: Oasen, Sida, Valhallavägen 199, Stockholm.

Country led evaluations are a fundamental principle in the follow-up and review process of Agenda 2030. So far, more effort seems to have gone into strengthening data and statistics – raising a concern that the “E” in M&E may be left behind.

This seminar will explore the emerging landscape of evaluation capacity development initiatives and current topics that may influence its future shape.

Joakim Molander, Head of Budget and Program Performance at IDEA, gives a key note address reflecting on a decade of evaluation capacity development and its role in building democratic states.
Jörg Faust, Director of the German Institute for Development Evaluation (DEval) and Karen Rot-Munstermann, A.g. Evaluator General of the Independent Development Evaluation (IDEV) of the African Development Bank, will talk about how they address evaluation capacity development, which is included in the mandates of their respective evaluation functions.
Susanne Mattsson, Senior Evaluation Specialist at Sida, will address the issue of professionalisation based on her experience as co-convener of the UNEG Working Group on Professionalisation of Evaluation.
Jason Mayfield, Senior Evaluation Officer at the World Bank, will give a brief update on the Centers for Learning on Evaluation and Results (CLEAR) initiative.
Laila Smith, Director CLEAR-AA, talk about an African approach to evaluation and some of the initiatives in Sothern and Eastern Africa that the center is engage in.
Boubacar Aw, Director CLEAR-FA, will highlight evaluation capacity development needs springing from the introduction of performance based budgeting and how they address them in West Africa.
Gabriela Perez Yarahuan, Director CLEAR-LA, will share experiences from partnering with IFAD to enhance their evaluation capacity worldwide.
