Seizing the opportunity – focus on investment in sustainable land use!
Seminariet webbsänds på Sidas Bambuserkanal.
A global land rush is underway and land-based investment is a hot topic on the international scene. How can such investment boost economies, local empowerment and prospects for sustainability rather than cause dispossession of land, conflicts over benefits and degradation of resources? Guidelines, manuals and frameworks have been developed in recent years – including the FAO Voluntary Guidelines on Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests; and Guidance on Investing in Locally Controlled Forestry. But how do we make such papers “workable” in practical development cooperation?
To understand more Sida asked the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) the following questions:
• How to improve accountability in land-based investments?
• How to make agricultural investments more inclusive?
• How to invest in locally controlled resource use?
IIED is one of the world’s top policy research organizations working in the field of sustainable development.
