This evaluation locates CLACSO activities in the context of contemporary Latin American social science, describes the Council's structure and program components, and assesses CLACSOs success in meeting its institutional objectives. The report concludes that CLACSO fulfills an invaluable role for the social sciences in Latin America, and that it is vital for linking the world of scholarship with efforts of civil society organizations to effect progressive social change. It also concludes that it is crucial that CLACSO receive continuing or increased funding. Several major challenges for the coming years were identified, including the need to diversify sources of support and to manage an impending leadership transition
