Trade and poverty

Constantine Michalopulos
The trade brief discusses the trends in developing country trade and trade policies, poverty reduction and the linkages between trade and poverty. Developing country trade policies and growth are discussed from a general perspective (how openness in trade can promote growth, which in turn may alleviate poverty), sectoral perspective (the links between trade and output) and from an indirect perspective. The present state of developing and developed country trade policies is analysed as well as the need for complementary policies.
