When Development Projects go Orphan - Lessons from 20 years of Swedish forestry support to Nicaragua

Sida Evaluation
Pierre Frühling
During the period 1980 to 1998, almost SEK 400 million of Swedish public funds were transferred to Nicaragua on a grant basis and invested for the purpose of forestry development. The purpose of this study is to analyse the development of the forestry programme and estimate lasting results; and to identify the main external and internal factors which shaped the programme and contribute to a discussion on principal lessons, thereby promoting the learning process within Sida and other international development agencies.
