Swedish Support to the Forestry Sector in Latvia
Swedish support to the forestry sector in Latvia began in 1992. So far 11 different projects have been approved, at a total amount of around 13 MSEK. The projects have been financed by BITS and Sida-Öst and the Latvian counterpart agency for all projects has been State Forest Service under the Ministry of Agriculture. In addition to the projects, SwedeCorp has carried out export marketing projects within the concept "Advantage Balticum", where, among others, the wooden sector has been selected as a priority sector. Within the project "Swedish Baltic Corps" Swedish experts have ben posted at wood producing companies. There has also been some cooperation at company level in the wood utilization sector wihtin the "Start-East" programme.
