This country note is an extension of a first mapping of gender approaches across Sida’s Kenya country programme undertaken in August-September 2009 and summarized in the Phase I report for this evaluation. Some of the issues raised in that mapping were further tested and discussed during the Phase II institutional survey of Sida practices and lessons for gender mainstreaming. Based on findings from Phase I and Phase II, and in consultation with the Sida reference group for this evaluation, one large bilateral programme (Nyanza Roads 2000) and one small Embassy special project (the Rich and Poor Project) were selected for more in-depth study during the field work in Phase III.This was done in order to identify examples of good practice and lessons from different approaches to mainstreaming gender equality.
