Country Level Analysis for Poverty Reduction
The paper provides guidance to Sida staff faced with the task of undertaking, designing or assessing analyses at the country level with a focus on poverty reduction. The first part of the paper discusses processes and roles and provides a brief discussion on the role of development assistance in poverty reduction and the role of country level analysis in development cooperation. A main, second part, of the paper includes a review of the anatomy of an analysis and of the three main components of an analysis; understanding the nature of poverty, analysing its causes and identifying remedies. This is followed by a stylised road map for undertaking an analysis. The final part of the paper shifts the focus from the general level to the more specific and discusses how key thematic elements, as outlined in Sweden's policy for global development, relate to poverty and poverty reduction.
