Sida's StartEast and StartSouth Programmes

The study assesses the results of Sida`s StartProgrammes in the 1998-2004 period for the creation business alliances between Swedish SMEs and private firms in transition countries and in developing countries.The study looks at the relevance, effectiveness, sustainability and the development effects in the host countries of the partner projects. The study also assesses the programmes in the light of the new Swedish Policy for Global Development and Sida´s Policy for Private Sector Development. The study makes a number of recommendations to be applied for the extension of the two programmes.Some of these relate to the design and formulation of the future support and some relate to the administration of the programmes.
