Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) Bus Project in Dhaka
Marie Tynell , Lennart Olsson
Sida provided in 1999 a concessionary credit (consisting of 50% credit and 50% grant) of 94 MSEK to the Bangladesh Road Transport Company, BRTC, a public utility for procurement of 50 buses to augment their businventory for Dakka. The team found that the project had been successfully inmplemented, the buses were efficiently used and well maintained. The project was pro poor /women and was environment friendly. It was recommended that a proposed second phase of the project involving procurement of an additional 100 buses be carried out but also suggested that the maintenance facilities be improved and the BRTC be restructured and reformed.
