Published: Wednesday, November 04, 2009

Changed: Wednesday, March 24, 2010

The government of Sweden has decided on a special initiative for democratisation and freedom of expression. The initiative aims at supporting actors for change, individuals, groups and civil society organisations working for democratisation and freedom of expression.

Please note that the Call for Proposals was open 5 November–31 December 2009 and that the deadline for submission of Concept Notes has passed.

Sida received approximately 2000 Concept Notes by 31 December 2009.  Concept Notes submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

Due to the great interest in this Special Initiative and the very large amount of submitted Concept Notes, Sida is unable to confirm receipt of any specific Concept Notes.

We have finished the review of all the Concept Notes and have notified all applicants of their status. Succesful applicants have been asked to submit a full application. Sida thanks all applicants for their interest in the Special Initiative for Democratisation and Freedom of Expression.

How to apply for funding

Sweden's support to civil society organisations, CSOs, in development countries is always channeled through a Swedish organisation. By supporting the work of CSOs, Sida hopes to promote the development of a dynamic and democratic civil society and strengthen local partner organisations.
