Trade and climate action post-Paris: leveraging synergies for development

Publicerad: 3 maj 2017 Uppdaterad: 3 maj 2017

When: 23 May 2017, 08.30-12.30
Where: Hörsalen at Sida, Valhallavägen 199, Stockholm

Climate change poses tremendous risks for growth and development and therefore requires ambitious and immediate action. The Paris Agreement, with its universal character, represents an unprecedented commitment to tackle the climate challenge but its success will require trade frameworks that support the transition to a low-carbon economy.

For developing countries, broad-based economic development remains essential for poverty reduction. Therefore, the trade-climate-development nexus embodies some of our time's most important challenges.

How can trade policy support the spread of climate-friendly goods and services and the phase out of inefficient fossil fuel subsidies? What are the effects on trade of nationally determined contributions to climate policy? How can Sweden support developing countries in climate change adaptation and mitigation?

Welcome to this exciting half-day policy dialogue and engage with stakeholders from government, the private sector, civil society and academia.
