Baltic COMPASS
Baltic Compass promotes sustainable agriculture in the Baltic Sea region. Baltic Compass aims to enhance all the methods that help agricultural sector to produce our daily food without weakening the condition of the Baltic Sea. By supporting win-win solutions for agriculture, the environment and business sectors, Baltic Compass is paving the way to a stable rural economy and a healthier ecosystem. Baltic Compass is financed by European Union ERDF and ENPI fund through the Baltic Sea Region Programme and its 22 partners representing national authorities, interest organizations, scientific institutes and innovations centres in the whole Baltic Sea catchment area. Baltic Compass will run from January 2010 to December 2012. Total funding is 6.7 Million Euro.
The Sida Baltic Sea Unit had an active role in the project preparation and also as a co-lead and partner in the ongoing implementation.
The role of the Sida Baltic Sea Unit within Baltic COMPASS is to develop and strengthen the cooperation with Russia and ongoing parallel initiatives and projects, to initiate a number of targeted workshops, and also to supervise the internal review processes.
Sida Baltic Sea Units role in Baltic COMPASS will be to:
1. contribute in expanding networks, scope and impact of Baltic COMPASS through targeted workshops including stakeholders and potential financiers, with special emphasis on strengthening cooperation with North-West Russia and;
2. to contribute with analysis and self-evaluation for meeting the project objectives in general and specifically the objective on strenghtening conditions for facilitating investments in environmental technology and management in the Baltic Sea Region.
