Humanitarian and Reconstruction Assistance to Afghanistan, 2001-05
A Joint Evaluation / This is a joint donor evaluation where assistance from five countries - Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden and United Kingdom - is examined. Overall, '...aid to Afghanistan has produced important results...' but this has been achieved 'at a high financial cost due to difficult security and logistical problems'. The interventions were generally considered highly relevant. Among obvious shortcomings are limited support to women's' situation and the relative neglect of the judicial sector. The evaluation recommends that the international community make commitments for at least ten years. Among Sweden's 'most valuable input has been to the health sector to the Swedish Afghanistan Committee'.
