St. Petersburg on the move

David Isaksson
Cleaning up the Baltic Sea / St Petersburg is the largest single source of pollution into the Baltic Sea. Taking into operation the Southwest Wastewater Treatment Plant will bring about a sharp fall in the discharge levels. Wastewater from about 700,000 people will now be treated instead of going straight into the River Neva and out into the Gulf of Finland. The project is a good example of how local authorities, governments, international finance institutions and private sector can cooperate in providing a better environment.
