European integration – a driver of change in Moldova
Even though Moldova has emerged from its post-communist past, political and economic progress has yet to translate into a better life for all. Poverty, labour migration and respect for human rights are some of the long-standing challenges to be solved. Sida and UNDP invites to a breakfast discussion, based on the recent National Human Development Report on Moldova.
At the presentation you will hear more about how Swedish development cooperation is reaching out to communities in Moldova by strengthening local governments, providing better services to people and ensuring that women and men participate and benefit equally from the development opportunities.

The 2012 National Human Development Report "European Aspirations and Human Development of the Republic of Moldova" addresses these issues from the perspective of economic, social and human capital development as key factors for good governance and successful European integration. But the economic challenges are only part of the picture, and the question is whether EU integration is the cure? The path to Europe is very much about modernizing state and society to respect human rights and tolerance, but is the Moldovan society ready to embrace it all?
Moldova’s European integration is one of the key objectives of Sweden’s cooperation with the Republic of Moldova. In partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, Sweden has supported Moldova in deepening democracy, decentralization reform and ensuring human rights for all – including religious, ethnic and sexual minorities and women – reaching people throughout Moldova.
