Evaluation of Swedish Support to SchoolNet Namibia

Peter Ballantyne
The report describes the results of SchoolNet Namibia's programme to introduce ICT to schools since 2002. It has launched an ISP, connected around 120 schools to the Internet, and set up computer laboratories in these schools. It has also shown that this can be done in rural areas where thre are neither telephone lines nor connections to the power grid. It has pioneered affordable strategies. Its model combine low-cost refurbished computers, Open Source operating systems and software applilcations, discounted access to the Internet, and the offer of ICT volonteers to provide bsic ICT support after set up and installation. The report also draws conclusions of the programme and lists lesson learnt.
