The Sustainable Livelihood Approach to Poverty Reduction
The concept Sustainable Livelihoods is an attempt to go beyond the conventional definitions of and approaches to poverty. These have often been too limited, focusing only on a few aspects of the manifestiation of poverty, such as low income or lack of education, whereas other aspects, such as alienation and vulnerability, are forgotten. It is now known that various factors and processes that either constrain or enhance poor people's ability to support themselves in an economically, ecologically and socially sustainable way have to be taken into account. Sustainable Livelihoods offers a more coherent and integrated approach to poverty.
