A new regional training centre for trade facilitation capacity building

Published: 16 December 2014 Updated: 16 December 2014

In cooperation with the Trade Policy Training Centre in Africa (trapca), Sweden launches a new regional training centre for trade facilitation capacity building.

The training facility will target participants from Africa, with special focus on the least developed countries (LDCs). The capacity building activities at trapca will support participating countries in implementing the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement, which aims to reduce bottlenecks and improve procedures for the flow of goods across borders. The WTO, the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the World Bank and the International Trade Centre (ITC) have expressed their support for the new facility.

"Sweden is a small trade-dependent nation. Our substantial support to trade-related capacity building in LDCs and Africa is grounded in the understanding that trade can be an important vehicle out of poverty and into inclusive growth", says H.E. Johan Borgstam, Ambassador of Sweden in Nairobi.
