The Sida Partnership Forum course campus is located in Härnösand, Sweden. This former hospital designed by J. F. Åbom provides a beautiful, relaxing training centre.
Our course campus is made up of three buildings: a main building where courses are held and two adjacent buildings that together make up Lönnebo, the course lodging facilities.
Each room at Lönnebo can be used as either a single or double room. Some rooms are equipped with a kitchenette. There are also facilities for the disabled. Bathrooms are located in or connected to each room. We provide towels and sheets. Wireless access is available throughout the building.
Lönnebo also has a common kitchen area, a TV room, sauna, and laundry facilities, as well as phones for incoming calls. Computers are available in the main building. Breakfast is served at Lönnebo. Lunch is served in the main building, and dinner is served at the restaurant called Vägg i Vägg, within walking distance of the Sida Partnership Forum campus.
History of the training campus
The central building of the campus long housed Gådeå hospital, a psychiatric institution. The hospital dates from the 1860s. It was designed by J. F. Åbom, one of Sweden’s most famous architects, also responsible for Berns Salonger in Stockholm.
In the 1940s, the hospital was modernized and its exterior ornamentation was removed to adhere to the functional ideals of the time. Early in the 21st century, the wings built in 1878 were also removed. All the same, the building still retains its original architecture with classical influences, which characterise many similar institutions built in the late 19th century.
Gådeå hospital was closed in 1989 as a result of the many changes to psychiatric care implemented during the 20th century. The building was used as a refugee centre for a few years until ABF began to use it as an educational campus.
Sida Partnership Forum moved into the facilities in 2002 and has held courses here since.
