Calls for proposals is a way for Sida to find new interventions to support through an open application process. For example, actors of change within the civil society, who have been given the opportunity to submit applications for funding initiatives for democratisation and freedom of expression. Two calls for proposals have recently been launched: ICT for development and democracy and ICT for empowerment of women and girls. Both calls were closed at the end of October, 2012. Applications are now being evaluated and all applying organisations will receive a reply before the end of May, 2013.
The call for proposal ICT for Democratisation and Freedom of Expression uses funds from the Swedish Special Initiative for Democratisation and Freedom of Expression launched by the Swedish government in 2009. The initiative aims to support actors for change, individuals, groups and civil society organisations working for democratisation and freedom of expression.
The other call for proposal, ICT for empowerment of women and girls, aims to increase socio-economic equality between women and men by ensuring equal access to technology and equal opportunities to use ICT in an open society. The proposals should be in line with the strategy for capacity development and collaboration 2011-2013.
