Sida’s Calls for proposals is a way to get in touch with different types of actors, in order to support the best ideas for projects and programmes, within different kind of areas.

Calls for proposals is a way for Sida to find new interventions to support. For example to actors of change within civil society, who have been given the opportunity to submit applications for funding for work towards democratisation and freedom of expression.

Two calls were closed end of October

Two calls for proposals have recently been launched:ICT for development and democracy  and ICT for empowerment of women and girls. Both calls were closed end of October.  Applications are now being evaluated.

  1. The Call for proposal ICT for democratisation and freedom of expression is using funds from the Swedish Special Initiative for Democratisation and Freedom of Expression, launched by the Swedish government in 2009. The initiative aims at supporting actors for change, individuals, groups and civil society organisations working for democratisation and freedom of expression.
Under this Call, Sida has received approximately 950 applications. An assessment process has been initiated and, due to the high amount of applications received, will only be finalized during January/beginning February 2013. Sida aims to notify all applicants of the outcome by the end of May, 2013.

  2. The other Call for proposal, ICT for empowerment of women and girls, aims at increasing socio-economic equality between women and men by ensuring equal access to technology and equal opportunities to use ICT in an open society. The proposals should be in line with the Strategy for capacity development and collaboration 2011–2013.

This Call rendered a total of 300 proposals that are currently under assessment. The first step of the assessment process will be finalized by the end of 2012, when all applicants will be notified whether or not their proposals has proceeded to the second and final stage of selection.
