    Close to 100 Nicaraguan midwives attended a conference in Managua, Nicaragua in October. The objective was to share scientific and practical experience in the area of maternal and reproductive health. Sida sponsored the event in the context of the midwife training programme in Nicaragua which culminates next year.

    Having the confidence of the people, a presence on the streets and in rural areas and a dialogue with different groups is the core of Nicaragua’s police work. Compared with many other countries in the region, Nicaragua has managed to prevent and reduce crime. Sweden has had long-term cooperation with the police in the country, though this will soon come to an end.

International Training Programmes

As part of Sida's work with capacity and institutional development Sida offers international training programmes (ITP) for participants from low-and middle-income countries in priority areas. ITP's methodology takes account of the desire to develop and reform that the participants' organization have expressed in their application to the program.
