We concentrate our cooperation with Georgia to three sectors; democracy, human rights and gender equality, environment and market development. Read about programmes within the environment sector.

Clean Up Georgia

The aim of the programme is to clean up Georgia  to challenge waste management in the country through awareness campaigns, introducing new systems (3R-Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and modern methods to Georgia’s population.

A campaign has been carried out “Communities caring for nature” with almost 30 000 persons participating in clean up activities. Municipal waste management in 56 communities and 4 cities has been mapped and a database with analysis and reports developed. A watchdog network is monitoring cleaned areas and a web-site  has been created .

Adjara Solid Waste Project

The project will build a landfill facility compliant with European Union directives to serve the coastal region of Adjara in Western Georgia.

The facility will be strategically located near the three largest municipalities Batumi, Kobuleti and Khelvachauri districts, also the port, oil terminal and most industries and hotels. The project comprises the components related to closure of Batumi and Kobuleti old landfills too.

People first

We are committed to enabling people to get a better life. The individual person is always the focus of our work. Here you will meet some people involved in Swedish development assistance. Let them explain how their situation has changed.

International Training Programmes

As part of Sida's work with capacity and institutional development Sida offers international training programmes (ITP) for participants from low-and middle-income countries in priority areas. ITP's methodology takes account of the desire to develop and reform that the participants' organization have expressed in their application to the program.
