The work in the region focus at strengthening democracy and good governance, improving respect for human rights, promoting sustainable use of water resources and stimulating economic development in the region. The region comprises 18 countries, the occupied Palestinian territories and Western Sahara.

The development cooperation in the MENA region deals with regional and sub-regional initiatives and not individual countries. It is concentrated to three areas: democratic social government and human rights, sustainable utilisation of cross-border water resources and regional economic integration.

International Training Programmes

As part of Sida's work with capacity and institutional development Sida offers international training programmes (ITP) for participants from low-and middle-income countries in priority areas. ITP's methodology takes account of the desire to develop and reform that the participants' organization have expressed in their application to the program.
