    Independent press institute fights for freedom of expression

    Freedom of the press and freedom of expression have become increasingly restricted in Sri Lanka in recent years, with bombs at editorial offices and journalists receiving death threats. The media is strongly politicized and is being used to fire up the conflict in the country. Sri Lanka’s press institute is working to change the situation.

    Studies and a sewing machine led Champika to own business

    For a poor and disabled Sri Lankan women there is little chance to support oneself. But with the help of the Rehab Lanka project Champika Subashini, 24, from Sri Lanka was able not only to train as a seamstress but also to borrow money for her own sewing machine and start her own business.

International Training Programmes

As part of Sida's work with capacity and institutional development Sida offers international training programmes (ITP) for participants from low-and middle-income countries in priority areas. ITP's methodology takes account of the desire to develop and reform that the participants' organization have expressed in their application to the program.
