Our work in Afghanistan

Stability and security are necessary for all kinds of development. In Afghanistan, the opposite scenario exists. To ease the humanitarian situation, there has been an international demonstration of strength. Sweden’s contributions will also increase in the next few years.

Condolences

Magnus Lindell, Deputy DG, condolences following the events in Afghanistan

It was with sadness and dismay, we received the news that two Swedish officers and an Afghan interpreter were killed, and a soldier was wounded in a firefight west of Mazar-e-Sharif, on February 7, 2010. On behalf of Sida, I would like to convey our heartfelt condolences. We deeply regret the loss for the relatives. Our thoughts are also with their colleagues at the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Mazar-e-Sharif. The Sida staff at the team are also in our thoughts. They work side by side with the soldiers, for the development of the private sector, improved education, humanitarian aid, democracy and human rights. It is a difficult situation for everyone involved and we give them our full support.
