Statistics – a tool in the fight against poverty

Statistics reveal important connections for more effective policies. Sida is working in Mali to improve the quality of the country’s statistics.

Swedish aid to Mali stopped until further notice

Due to the current political situation in Mali, the Swedish government has announced that it will stop long-term development cooperation with Mali for the time being. Mali is one of the four countries that receives so-called general budget support (GBS) from Sweden. The total amount of aid to Mali in 2012 was scheduled for just over SEK 320 million, half of which is GBS. Humanitarian operations are not covered by the stop of aid payments.

Our work in Mali

Mali is driving large-scale reform work. Through budgetary support, Sida is contributing towards improving the state apparatus’ ability to implement a long-term policy to reduce poverty. We are also supporting several organizations that are working for democracy and human rights in the country.

International Training Programmes

As part of Sida's work with capacity and institutional development Sida offers international training programmes (ITP) for participants from low-and middle-income countries in priority areas. ITP's methodology takes account of the desire to develop and reform that the participants' organization have expressed in their application to the program.
