    For Liberian Steve Davies, it is a pleasure to get up in the morning and commute to work at his own company. He describes it simply as "wonderful". Steve is the CEO of JD Trading – a cement company located in the heart of the Liberian capital, Monrovia. His enthusiasm can perhaps be explained by the fact that ever since childhood he has always dreamt of being an entrepreneur.

    Liberia in West Africa has gone through decades of civil war and violence. Since 2003, a fragile peace has been in place and the country is slowly recovering. Sweden supports the reconstruction of Liberia in collaboration with the World Bank and IFC. The aim is to facilitate businesses that invest in the country and therewith contribute to economic growth.

    Liberia is battling to build a functioning state apparatus. After 20 years of war and outrages, Liberia’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission is an important pre-condition for victims and perpetrators to co-exist in peace in future. Thanks to money and support from Sida, the commission has been able to gather witness accounts.

International Training Programmes

As part of Sida's work with capacity and institutional development Sida offers international training programmes (ITP) for participants from low-and middle-income countries in priority areas. ITP's methodology takes account of the desire to develop and reform that the participants' organization have expressed in their application to the program.
