Women gaining political power in Burkina Faso

The political arena in Burkina Faso is traditionally the men’s playground. Women with political ambitions have long been kept outside the corridors of power. But the political landscape is now being redrawn with the help of the Sida-supported NDI.

Bilateral cooperation to be phased out by 2016

Bilateral cooperation with Burkina Faso will be phased out by the end of 2016. That is stated in the government's letter of appropriation for 2013 to Sida. The process should be done in a responsible manner and a specific plan for this is to be developed.

Our cooperation with Burkina Faso could be a model for development aid in future. The stable political situation has made it possible to build from scratch. Through budgetary support, we can contribute to the country’s long-term ambitions for a fairer society.

International Training Programmes

As part of Sida's work with capacity and institutional development Sida offers international training programmes (ITP) for participants from low-and middle-income countries in priority areas.
