    Studies and a sewing machine led Champika to own business

    For a poor and disabled Sri Lankan women there is little chance to support oneself. But with the help of the Rehab Lanka project Champika Subashini, 24, from Sri Lanka was able not only to train as a seamstress but also to borrow money for her own sewing machine and start her own business.

    Poor small farmer becomes entrepreneur

    Exildah Mwambazi from a family of poor small farmers in the Mbala district of Zambia is now an entrepreneur with self-confidence and hope for the future. She was supported by a Sida-financed programme for agricultural development, which focuses on gender equality.

    Greener electricity for rural Tanzania

    Less than 2 per cent of Tanzania’s rural population has access to electricity. With support from Sida, Tanzania is working to connect rural areas to the national electricity network. The result is both a higher standard of living and a reduction in carbon-dioxide emissions.

International Training Programmes

As part of Sida's work with capacity and institutional development Sida offers international training programmes (ITP) for participants from low-and middle-income countries in priority areas. ITP's methodology takes account of the desire to develop and reform that the participants' organization have expressed in their application to the program.
