Evaluation at Sida

How Sida works with evaluation

Sida’s Unit for Monitoring and Evaluation plans for and commissions independent evaluations assessing the quality of Sida financed development co-operation.

Sida uses these evaluations as a tool for decision making and learning. All evaluations are published electronically on Sida's publication database.

The evaluation of Sweden’s development assistance is carried out on two levels:

  • Each department and team at Sida evaluates its development assistance efforts within its own area of responsibility.
  • The Unit for Monitoring and Evaluation has a broader and greater responsibility, focusing on assuring the quality of the evaluations and planning and commissioning more thematic and strategic evaluations, usually in co-operation with other international evaluation organizations.

Visit our page for Evaluation Briefs to find summaries of published evaluations. For information about planned evaluations, please see the Strategic Evaluation Plan.

Management response

Sida has had a management response system in place since 1999. This system requires that Sida responds to and in cases acts on the results and recommendations the evaluations produce. A number of these responses can be found in Sida’s publication database.
